Watts Bar Lake is located between Knoxville and Chattanooga on the Tennessee River. Watts Bar Lake has been created by Watts Bar Dam at the SE end of the lake. Completely navigable and maintained by the Tennessee Valley Association or TVA, Watts Bar Lake and the Tennessee River provide an abundant and reliable source of economical electric power for the beautiful Tennessee Valley.

Watts Bar Lake is just a little more than an hour drive from the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Centrally located on the lake and adjacent to I-40 is the quaint city of Kingston, where 3 major rivers (Emory River, Clinch River & the Tennessee River) join together to form one of the most spectacular bodies of uncrowded water in the United States. The Tennessee Valley has a subtropical climate at lake level and a mountain climate in the hills of the magnificent Cumberland Plateau - ever present on the horizon.

"Locals" often refer to living on either the "North" or "South" shore of the lake, even though the lake winds like a snake for some 70 miles with inlets and islands too numerous to count. Living on the "North Shore" generally refers to the area north of the lake between Spring City (Rhea County) to the West and Kingston (Roane County) to the East, and including such developments as Watts Bar Estates, Terrace View, Crystal Cove, Pin Hook, Grand Vista, and more! The "South Shore" can refer to the shoreline from Kingston southwest to the community of Ten Mile (Meigs County) and beyond to Watts Bar Dam and includes the developments of The Villages, Lake Shadow Estates, Indian Shores, Red Cloud Estates, etc. Both the Emory and Clinch Rivers are navigable rivers and they flow into Watts Bar Lake at Kingston. The water of the Tennessee River north of Kingston also offers beautiful lake view and lake front property sites.

Due to the great size of Watts Bar Lake and the fact that we have so many lakes in East Tennessee, Watts Bar Lake doesn't get over-crowded even on the busiest holiday weekends. We have great marinas and waterfront restaurants which are so important, but often difficult to find on other waterways.
